ZAMAN RESTAURANT

The present moment is a fleeting breath that has passed from “that,” and the future reflects the
hope of the moments to come. “That” is a line tangent to the two spheres of the past and future,
and in this contact, the future always transforms into the past. Two spinning spheres pass on
seconds to each other like a black hole. Understanding and experiencing the “moment” is a great
gift, as Saadi eloquently expresses by emphasizing the necessity of gratitude for every breath.
A circle inscribed within a perfect square has seven openings in its plan, and in each opening, the
proportions of its façade shape the geometry of the space. A line passes from the center of the
circle through the façade of each opening. This line marks the point of contact between the upper
sphere and the enclosing cube in the plan.
The upper sphere is supported by metal frameworks resting on four concrete bases. The rusted
metal frameworks, representing the past in their form, utilize contemporary materials and robotic
construction techniques that symbolize the future. The remaining elements of the space, like a
black mass, encompass time, and that line serves as the tangent between the future and the past,
which is the present.
The space we inhabit, while rooted in Iranian architectural motifs, seeks to transform place into
time, making all employed elements conducive to a livable experience of time. The same principle
applies to food. A different perspective on Iranian dishes will be experienced while preserving their
authenticity.
Here, we aim to cherish the present moment and transform fleeting moments of the near future into
joyful memories.
