2022/06/13

Primary manufacture

• Glass may be manufactured as:
– Basic glass, (Soda Lime Silicate Glass) – Borosilicate Glass

● Less expansion, More viscosity in high temperature

– Low iron (white) glass,

– Body tinted glass;

• This has a through body tint achieved by the addition of metal oxides to the melt,

– Coated
• Coatings are deposited on to the hot glass,

• They are called hard or pyrolitic coatings,

• They may be low-e coatings, low reflectance coatings, self cleaning coatings, coloured coatings.

Annealed glass

The glass produced by primary manufacture is annealed or basic glass,
